Lutheran World Missions joined with other Lutherans and Lutheran organizations in supporting The Old Latin School in Wittenberg, Germany by providing a portion of the 500th Reformation Medallion coin sale proceeds to this project with the goal of giving $10,000. "The International Lutheran Center at the Old Latin School (OLS), provides a place for people to learn, grow, study, meet, retreat, and experience the Gospel in Lutherstadt Wittenberg, home of the Reformation. The center is directly adjacent to St. Mary’s City Church, or Stadtkirche, where through the countless sermons of Martin Luther and others, the Christian Church was re-formed. Stemming from the new approach to education being taught by the Wittenberg reformers, the Old Latin School was built in 1564, as the city school for boys. It is truly in the very center of the birthplace of the Reformation. The Old Latin School is managed by the International Lutheran Society of Wittenberg gGmbH (ILSW). This German non-profit organization is a partnership of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS), the Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church of Germany (SELK), and Concordia Publishing House (CPH). Lutheran World Missions gives grant to Concordia Seminary St. Louis International Students Graduate School Program! Forming International Teachers and Leaders.
Lutheran World Missions, with a matching grant from Concordia Lutheran Church of Upper Marlboro, MD, gave a total of a $10,000.00 grant to the International Students Graduate Program at Concordia Seminary St. Louis. This grant will provide general support to the International Students Graduate Program and "will ensure that the saving Word of God is shared more fully throughout the world." After obtaining their degrees, these students will return to their home countries and become teachers and Pastors at these nations' seminaries. "Thus their work to spread the Gospel abroad will have a considerable impact that will reach far into the future...where they will become leaders within their home church and help grow the church in these countries." Dr. Gerhard Bode, Dean of Advanced Studies states, "When the international students graduate and return home to teach and lead, they will be well-prepared to help carry out the Great Commission." The Graduate School's students are from 21 countries including Ethiopia, India, Liberia, Kenya, Thailand, Rwanda, Guatemala, Peru, Uganda, Argentina, Paraguay, Taiwan and Nigeria.

Rev. Tibebu Teklu Senbetu, a Ph.D. from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. is a student in the International Graduate Student Program at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. After he earns his degree from and returns home, Rev. Senbetu will resume his professorship at Mekane Yesus Seminary – the primary theological institution of the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY), which is the largest and fastest-growing Lutheran church body in Africa. To this point in his professorship, he has been teaching bachelor’s-level students. His Ph.D. from Concordia Seminary will enable him to instruct master’s-level students, which is important to the EECMY’s capability to produce the many additional well-formed Lutheran pastors who are needed throughout Ethiopia. In addition to resuming his professorship, Rev. Senbetu will continue to serve concurrently as a pastor and church planter.
